here's a recipe I like: 2 bunches green beans from farmer's market, 1 and 1/2 cantelopes, 1 orange....delicious!

Food for Today's Thoughts on Saturday, August 27, 2011

It's raining today and we are batting down the hatches for hurricane Irene.

I think eating my raw foods went well today.

I look forward to continuing the process.

I really enjoyed my tangelos the most...though the watermelon breakfast may be my favorite yet!

I'll add pictures later. But I wanted to say how blessed it is to have good friends, and a partner during times like these. To change is to be Life, and that's what I want. Thanks to friends and partner, dogs and cats, living green trees and rain. May it be safely so for those in the path of the Hurricane.

Food for Today's Thoughts on Thursday, August 25, 2011

Had a great day today.
Work went well. Then I had some help and great friend support to terminate a professional relationship. It went well and there was a good meeting of the minds. I feel strong from that experience~~! Then came home and made salad for my partner and a delicious green/Ginger smoothie for me; I really liked it. Here's tonights recipe:
1 head of Romaine Lettuce
1 1/2 big organic carrots
2 green apples
my supplements including spirulina and green magma
2 succulent chunks of fresh Ginger
1/2 cup filtered water
It was spicy and filling and ....fed me body, mind, spirit. I hope to take pictures of the process another time!
Thanks for tuning in.

Food for Today's Thoughts, Tuesday August 23, 2011

woke up , drank my lemon water and had a nice walk thru the neighborhood with Phyllis.
Enjoyed the crisp air. It's getting colder now as Fall considers it's options.
Busy work day. Had my green drink with supplements at around 10am. This was pretty good and helped
me to be focused and energized. Though I"m missing my mid morning walk. I really like that. The longer
I sit, the more I want to be out and about. It's long sometimes in the office and isolating. But Phyllis came up for lunch. I bought her a sub next door and ate my salad that I brought from home. Had my water a few hours later.
Then I went to the gym. I worked out at the Best Fitness in Albany this time. I like it there a lot. There seems to be more equipment or something. Plus there is a healthy mix of men and women. This is nice.
I ran into a female body builder. Her muscular back looked terrific. I thought, I'd like to work towards a back like that one day. Her overall form was chiseled. I wanted to speak to her but...didn't this time.
I bought a cool book on raw food recipes that I hope to use some time after my detox period. Probably not till like October or something, depending on when I feel ready. But there were some super cool recipes in that book and an excellent diagram on sprouting. I"m not much for using the scanner. I have to ask someone
in the family who's better at this to help me. I would also try to contact the writer to see if she minds if I duplicate. But I loved the diagrams. They're interesting and simply drawn. I think it would be super cool to turn my spare room into a meditation center/herb and sprout garden for Fall and Winter. I have to ask my co-worker Bernie about his growth lights.

There's something fairly exciting to think about growing my own foods with my own hands.

Well that's it for now; have a good night all.

Food for Today's Thoughts, Monday August 22, 2011

There's so much of it around.
Some of it's great to taste and some terrible.
Some that's good to eat isn't good for much of anyone.
Some people seem able to eat these things in small or large amounts and
remain fairly healthy. For me this is a mystery. I find that this way of eating, which is about 85% raw foods makes me feel pretty good. Sometimes I miss certain foods from my heritage. I don't think it makes sense to add these things at this time, but I come close with certain visitations of ways to make them in raw form.

I have an idea for grinding my own mustard seeds; this food may be used for a home made dressing at some point. Home made salad dressings are my next explorations. Though mostly I just squeeze 1/2 orange over my food/salad or do with out all together.

It's a process to release all of the body's toxins and visit what does food mean to me and the foods I leave behind, 95% will stay behind. Others will find some form or way to be part of my life. But for now, I need to release them to allow new ways of thinking, being and doing to come into my process.
This includes sprouting.

I want to grow sprouts from lentils and other beans; to try to taste to see....and I want to grow herbs in my own home. Wait till I finish my room. I have emptied it perhaps for this purpose, to get a fall/winter start up garden so I can grow some of my own food during the long winter months....hmmm....thinking about this and more.

I had a shorter session with Mark on the phone but it was a help. I'm glad we have these phone meetings as ideas like these get the chance to...sprout! get it? LOL

have a good evening one and all :-)

Food for Today's Thoughts on Sunday, August 21, 2011 was a good day and a hard day.

had a great time going to the Saratoga Race track, won a big $11.32 on a horse.
had a blast walking/standing in the pouring rain to get free gym bags embossed with the Saratoga Race Track emblem/red on black. Managed my raw life well there had my green drink, later water then shared fruit I brought from home with Phyllis. Then we went to Racino so P could do a little gambling. I filled my plate with a huge salad, added raisins, red and green peppers, a little oil and vinegar and then...strayed to the potato salad....whoo boy it was tasty. But I felt heavy after. Ah well. One step back, tomorrow two steps forward.

This raw diet makes me feel great and I don't want to lose my momentum of weight loss and health changes.
I miss foods terribly that I'm used to eating. But I know this part, and these cravings will change. I"m never sure if I'll stay 100% raw in the end. I'm in the transition phase now. And at 80-90% I just know I feel pretty great most of the time. Better than in ages. Food for thought in deed.

Food for Today's Thoughts on Saturday, August 20, 2011

Happy Saturday! Had a nice day with Phyllis. Took a rest day. Had my water first thing and a gentle walk with dogs.Cantaloupe for breakfast. Rich juicy orange. I'll have to put a picture in next time.
Shared green juice with supplements with P for mid morning. Walked the dogs.Had salad with fresh oranges for lunch. Met friends and had a fun time helping shop at Target then ate out with them; Good talk and a modified Greek salad with lots of onions, cucumbers, a bit of chicken for supper. I ate a tiny bit of tomato. It tasted okay. I mostly don't care for them but decided to give em' a try.

OH yeah, weight count: I lost 6 more pounds. OMG I"m amazed.

Thanks God, Thanks Phyllis, thanks friends, thanks Mark!

Food for Today's Thoughts on Tuesday, August 16, 2011_Ginger baby!

I finally bought some ginger for my smoothie. I was so excited I decided to make it for my supper tonight. Also as I'd had a big salad with my 2oz of chicken at lunch, I wanted to rest my body. So once I'd digested my watermelon pre-meal, I got to work, chopping and dicing.

tonights recipe included, 2 carrots, 3 small chunks ginger, 2 green apples ( 1 small, 1 med), handfulls of cucumbers and some left over green juice from a previous smoothie.

I tried it without the green juice and it was very fresh very carrot tasting. I liked it. I could picture breakfast mid morning or mid afternoon on a mountain hike sipping this while climbing up a trail between the sunny pines.
I then added the ginger and some green drink. It turned an earthy green, orange-ish brown like roots, like the rich earth out in the Western USA. And I thought of my family's Colorado trip some years ago and the deep colors of rock there. RESULT: a bit sweet, a bigger spicy bite...quite good!

Food for Today's Thoughts on Saturday, August 13, 2011

This morning I slept in till 7:00am. Got up drank my 32 oz of water and went on a nice walk with Phyllis.
We always enjoy going thru the neighborhoods. This time of year, it's a sweet experience. Everything's so green and so many of our neighbor's really landscape with a riot of summer colors. Beautiful purples, reds, orange flowers, American flags on the porches, little picket fences and small gardens, big beautiful maple trees.
After the walk I had ate Grapefruit today. It's a strong flavor but pretty good. I was hungry an hour later. This is different than the melon which lasts longer. So I waited a bit and ate Cantelope melon. Delicious!

It's nearly lunch. Contemplating salad options. Or I might have a Green Drink and wait to eat till mid afternoon. Have to check with Phyllis. Her brother Armand is over putting in some drawers for us. It's part of a slow kitchen fix up we are doing. Thank God we know someone with some talent in this area!

Sonam Ben's Raw Journey

LifeStyle UPDATE: Hello Folks! I am about to lose a whopping amount of weight and continue my fitness finally!
I started a raw diet 1 week ago and lost 10lbs! 76 more to go!
I hadn't been able to lose in so long. I'm happy and feeling better too. I have tried a lot of methods and then just about gave up. Finally I tuned into YouTube and caught one of Mark Angelo Cummings videos on spirit and raw foods eating. I'd know him from a few years ago so I Facebook friended him. Since that time, he's taken me on in his professional capacity and I'm following a guidance I couldn't have imagined years ago. I eat, I feel better, I work out in a way that works for me. For the first time I think I found something that may make the biggest change in my life and free me up to be able to be myself, be a better partner and friend and happier. This blog is to chronicle the nuts and bolts of my experience. Stay tuned. Better to tune in than off.

This is my first blog. I started it because I'm changing my whole life and I wanted to make a record.
I'm 48 years old, married to Phyllis for 23 years, I have 2 beautiful dogs, I'm transgendered, I write, I work hard with helping disabled persons work as my day job and this health change is My Raw Journey
